A living culture
In the heart of Brittany
A deeply rooted Breton culture
If there is one territory steeped in regional culture, it is indeed the heart of Brittany.
For decades, the fest-noz have been in full swing, feet have been twirling to the sound of the bombarde and the biniou, words have been spoken in Breton on the streets and encounters have been meaningful...
Breton culture mixes with contemporary cultures to create unique moments, from an emblematic festival like the Vieilles Charrues in Carhaix to the renowned Fisel festival in Rostrenen.
The identity of the region is felt through the attachment of the Bretons to their language, their dances, the local costumes, the music and its instruments, the gastronomy and of course the heritage. The Bretons have the art of combining all the facets of Breton traditions in festive moments where it is good to mingle.
In the heart of Brittany, the parish enclosures and churches come alive during the typical pardons, which are very lively here. Don't miss the bonfires, the climax of the end of the processions!
The festivals, the fest-noz (or "festoù-noz" in Breton), resound with their music every weekend as if to better celebrate Brittany. Discover them in the events calendar.
A world of legends
Did you know that at nightfall, the Korrigans invade the Breton moors to dance and sing in the moonlight? Or that the giant Boudédé created the chaos of the Gorges du Corong by leaving his small pebbles cluttering his boots? Do you believe that the lake of Guerlédan is home to a mysterious creature that hid in the caves of the slate quarry?
One thing is certain! The Teuz, little goblins living in the Breton longères, live alongside the Breton men and women every day.
Brittany is populated by legendary creatures, whose stories are whispered during storytelling evenings. Who has not heard of the Ankou, the emblem of death, or of the forest of Broceliande, which according to some, is historically located on the side of Paule?
